After 20 years of décorative art I left the detailing methods of illustration to explore the free-flowing style of abstract. I set out to experiment with colored rust patterns on steel and discovered endless possiblities.
I was born in Dayton, Ohio and raised a few miles north of the city in a small farm community. As a young man I trained for brief periods at the Dayton Art Institute, the University of Cincinnati, and the Central Academy of Commercial Arts in Cincinnati. Later I had several sessions of private observations watching Alaskan watercolorist, Byron Birdsall and abstract artist, Mike Elsass. Byron became my inspiration for color and composition, Mike became my inspiration for rust steel art and I am indebted to both for opening their private world to me and sharing their process.
Art is not my only interest. I’m an active family man, a published author and writer, and the senior pastor of a small congregation in Davidson, North Carolina (www.riversedgechurch.org). I’ve been happily married to my wife, Roseann, since 1974, and we have two adult children and a granddaughter.
Given that I am a pastor, I write Numbers 6:24-26, on the back of all my art. I then pray the verses over each original piece and ask God to bless the home of the buyer.
If you are interested in purchasing my original art, some are on display and for sale at the Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC. You may contact them at: 704-344-7744. For my original images printed on aluminum prints, you may email me at jay@jayzinn.com for an order from the derivatives found on this website as single images or triptychs. They will come with a framed mount on the back, ready to hang. You can go and see a large variety of my aluminum prints on the walls of Aquesta Bank in Davidson, NC, and soon on the walls of the Aquesta Bank in Cornelius, NC.
If you would like to commission me to do a piece of original art, I'm available for that, too. Call me at the number below, or send me your phone number in your email so that I may contact you and be sure to write in your "subject" line, "jay zinn art."
Thank you for visiting my site and God bless you.
